Description
The French Legion of Honour Medal by Reddick Militaria is a very nice replica, beautifully finished in gilt with green, red, white and blue enamel, making it a fine addition to any military medal collection. Made to original specifications, it is complete with a length of the correct, bright red ribbon. This model is very early, from the Second Republic, which is the period between 1848 and 1851. It features Napoleon's right facing head surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed "BONAPARTE EMP. DES FRANCAIS".
The "Legion d'honneur" was originally established by Napoleon I in 1802 and is the highest decoration in France. It is divided into 5 grades, beginning with the 5th Chevalier (Knight), then 4th Offizier (Officer), 3rd Commandeur, 2nd Grand Offizier, and the 1st (highest) the Grand Aigle, which was renamed the Grand Croix (Grand Cross) in 1814.
