Description
Our WWII French Croix de Guerre is die-struck in bronze in France, and they are the finest reproductions on the market! The medal consists of a maltese style cross with crossed swords, and the obverse center roundel features the head of the French Republic in high relief. The center roundel on the reverse has the date 1943 in raised letters. This famous WWII medal is almost identical to the WWI version, with the only difference being the dates on the reverse and the ribbon. Medals were produced with several different variations of dates, including 1939-1940, 1943, 1939-1945, etc., with 1939 being the most commonly found example.
The medal was awarded to both French & Allied soldiers for combat heroism fighting alongside France in WW II, and included many Americans. With original medals becoming more and more difficult to obtain, these make excellent iems for collectors.
