PUMA Solingen is one of the oldest knife making companies in the world. It was founded in 1769 by Johann Philipp Lauterjung in a small village of Balkhausen. The company formally moved to Solingen in 1855. In 1900 it was renamed to PUMA-Werk Lauterjung und Sohn Solingen. During World War II the company focused on the production of knives for the army.
