Description
Reddick Militaria's copy of the Third Reich German Eagle Order with Swords Fourth Class (1943-1945 version) is an excellent reproduction of this rare civilian award. This rare and impressive award features a fine gilt finish with high quality, white enameling. The 4th Class pin-back version is a vaulted cross fitted with the correct type broad pin and is marked "900" and "L/50" for the maker "Gebruder Godet & Co., Berlin". This was the 2nd Class version at the time the award was instituted, but was changed to the 4th Class with the new regulations in 1943.
Instituted by Hitler in 1937, the Eagle Order was originally awarded to foreign statesmen and dignitaries and after 1939 to several German nationals as well. Notable recipients included Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh, Benito Mussolini, Count Ciano and Francisco Franco.
