Description

This 2nd Pattern E-Boat (Torpedo Boat) Badge, as it is commonly known, is Reddick Militaria's standard quality reproduction of this World War II badge. Although unmarked, it is a nice copy of the one made by "W", which is normally assumed to be Wernstein, Jena, with a round, vertical pin attachment. It features the wreath and eagle in the proper gold washed finish, with the E-boat in silver and the sea in antique, grey silver.

Translated from Medals & Decorations of the Third Reich, by SS Colonel Dr. Heinrich Doehle. Copyright 1995, J. Rex Reddick:

" The Torpedo Boat War Badge (Das Schnellboot-Kriegsabzeichen) - In recognition of the achievements of crews of German torpedo boats and the successful attacks against enemy shipping which destroyed many British war ships and merchant vessels, the Navy Commander-in-Chief established on May 30, 1941 the Torpedo Boat War Badge (designed by Wilh. Ernst Peekhause, Berlin)."

"The war badge can be awarded to crews (including those killed in action and other qualified personnel). Criteria besides distinction and good conduct must include a minimum of twelve enemy actions."

"Other requirements are as follows: a. when the mission was especially effective and the individual displayed leadership or was killed-in-action. b. survivors of ships sunk by enemy action or special circumstances of being wounded in action. The award is made through the torpedo boat captain. The recipient receives an award document. The badge is worn on the left breast."
