Description
The German WW1 1914 Star of the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross from Reddick Militaria is an Iron Cross award commonly known as the "Breast Star". This version features a gold plated, eight-point star mounted with the World War I First Class Iron Cross at its center. The Iron Cross is riveted to the vaulted star, which has a wide, flat pin back attachment and our reproduction is an excellent copy of the original, featuring sharp details and multi-piece construction. It was awarded for the second time to Paul von Hindenburg in 1914 with the WWI version of the First Class Iron Cross (1914) mounted in the center.
The Breast Star was first awarded in 1815 to Field Marshal von Blücher and was therefore known as the Blücherstern, or Blücher's Star. During WW2, a few 1939 versions of the Star of the Grand Cross were produced by Rath Jewelers in Munich; however, none of this version were ever awarded, and only one example is known today. It is on display in the West Point Museum after being returned by the US Army after WWII.
