Description
These are high-quality reproductions of the U.S. WWII A-11 Military service watch from Reddick Militaria. Though numerous watches were produced in the U.S. and issued during the war, the A-11 is perhaps the most iconic. Early in the conflict, it was recognized that Allied personnel would need a wristwatch that could stand up to the rigors of combat, which led to the specifications for this watch being issued.
Three American watch manufacturers (Elgin, Waltham, and Bulova) were contracted to make the watches, and despite being an American production, the A-11 also saw service with the RAF, the RCAF, and the Soviet Air Force.
All in all, this made for a simple, accurate, high-grade wristwatch that could stand up to the rigors of use in the field and be easily maintained and serviced.
Each watch features:
- A black dial with white indices.
- Battery-powered Quartz movement.
- An outer track for the minutes.
- A smart stainless-steel housing with a snap-off back casing.
- Luminous hands and numbers for easy reading in low-light conditions.
- A 23cm olive green canvas wrist strap, which is held in place by spring bars.
- All watches were also required to feature ‘hacking’ (the second hand stopping completely upon pulling out of the crown) for ease of synchronisation and precise timing.
- The watch face measures an authentic 32mm across, not including the crown.
- A flat brown presentation box with silver text.
- A maximum wrist size of 20.5cm.
