Description
Cotton Lanyard for WW2 German P-08 Luger Pistol from Reddick Militaria is High Quality Reproduction
This premium quality reproduction or the P38 Cotton Lanyard is designed to match the original WW2 German issue for the P-38 Luger pistol. Made from cotton webbing with period-correct stitching and hardware, it offers an authentic look and feel and is ideal for collectors, reenactors, or as a display accessory. Approximately 1/2" wide and 55" in length.
The Walther P38 pistol was the standard service sidearm of the Wehrmacht from 1939 onward. Accompanying lanyards were manufactured primarily from tightly woven olive drab or gray-green cotton or rayon cord and featured a looped design intended to secure the pistol to the soldier’s uniform, preventing loss during combat or movement.
Original lanyards typically measure around 25 to55 inches in length, with reinforced metal tips or loops at the attachment points. One end would loop through the pistol’s lanyard ring located at the base of the grip, while the other end could be fastened to a uniform belt or equipment loop.
Issued primarily to officers, military police (Feldgendarmerie), and certain NCOs, the lanyard reflects both practical utility and formal appearance, and is often seen in period photographs of German personnel carrying the P38. Original examples are difficult to find and may show signs of wear or fading, consistent with field use, and are considered desirable collector’s items due to their association with one of WWII’s most iconic pistols.
