From Medals & Decorations of the Third Reich, by SS Colonel Dr. Heinrich Doehle. Copyright 1995, J. Rex Reddick:
"The Army Paratrooper Badge was authorized for paratroopers attached to the army on September 1, 1937 by the Army Commander-in-Chief. The award was given after completion of training and receipt of a certifying document. In order to retain the Army Paratrooper Badge the recipient must be re-examined annually. Future qualification for the badge required six jumps in 12 months. After the paratrooper was attached to the Air Force, the Army Paratrooper Badge was no longer awarded and was replaced by the Air Force Paratrooper Badge. Former members of the Army Paratroopers were allowed to keep and wear their Army Paratrooper Badge.
