Original Garand Canvas Slings were introduced in 1943 as a replacement for the leather M1907 sling, and manufactured in rugged olive drab #3 cotton webbing with durable metal hardware in blackened brass or steel. Issued in WW2 for the iconic M1 Garand rifle, many had maker markings and were dated, while some also included the MRT stamp (Mildew Resistant Treatment). Designed for durability and function in the harshest battlefield conditions, the canvas sling was favored by soldiers for its lightweight construction, quick-adjust design, and resistance to moisture compared to earlier leather models.
