Description
Reddick Militaria's reproduction of the WWII Luftwaffe Tank Battle Badge is die struck in fine detail. This two-piece badge features a matte silver 2nd pattern Luftwaffe eagle riveted to an oak leaf wreath, with a Panzer tank emerging from the central cut out. The wreath and tank are oxidized silver color, or "altsilber" as it was known, and the badge is complete with a typical flat pin and catch.
The German Air Ministry and the Air Force High Command authorized this badge on 3 November 1944 as the 'Tank Battle Badge of the Air Force," (Panzerkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). Issued to German Luftwaffe tank commanders and crews, tank repair crews, and attached Panzergenadier, medical personnel, and armored reconnaisance units which were engaged in 3 combat actions on 3 separate days. As this badge was instituted late in the war and very few are believed to have been issued, originals are extremely rare and thus expensive.
