Description
The Kriegsmarine War Badge for Naval Artillery (Das Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie) from World War II is commonly known as the Coastal Artillery Badge. Our standard quality piece, although unmarked, is nice copy of the original mid-war type produced by Friedrich Linden firm of Lüdenscheid. It features the round, vertical pin attachment and with the wreath and eagle in matte gold finish and the Naval battery gun in antique, blackened silver.
There are nine original makers known to have produced this badge: C. E. Juncker (Otto Placzek), Friedrich Linden (FLL), Rudolf Souval - Austria (R.S.), Funcke & Brüninghaus (L/56), Schwerin, Wernstein (W), Förster & Barth (L/21), Hermann Aurich (HAD) and Emil Juttner.
Translated from Medals & Decorations of the Third Reich, by SS Colonel Dr. Heinrich Doehle. Copyright 1995, J. Rex Reddick:
" Kriegsmarine War Badge for Naval Artillery (Das Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie) - In recognition of the achievements of crews of coastal artillery and in successful air defenses, the Navy Commander-in-Chief established on June 24, 1941 the War Badge for Naval Artillery (designed by sculptor Otto Placzek, Berlin)."
"The war badge can be awarded to personnel in all grades in combat units (including those killed in action or who died from wounds). The awarding authority is through the Commanding Admiral or the Admiral commanding the Southeast Naval District."
"The qualifying criteria beside distinction and good conduct is the accumulation of a total of 8 points under the established system."
