US Navy Cross Medal

Authorized on February 4, 1919, to members of the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard for extraordinary heroism or distinguished service in either combat or peacetime. Amended on August 7, 1942 to restrict this award to acts of military heroism in combat against an armed enemy of the U.S.
