This Interim Field Marshal Baton of Erwin Rommel from Reddick Militaria is a very nice copy of the original staff that was awarded to him upon his promotion to Generalfeldmarschall in 1943.
Also known as the Interim Staff, the silver pommel, or crown piece, is constructed of individual pieces and features the standard "pineapple top and "Rommel" in raised lettering around the lower band.  Two closed wing, silver plated Army eagles and a spread-winged gold toned party-form eagle, opposed by the 1939 Iron Cross, adorn the top section.  These separately applied devices, along with the double wire loops, are nicely detailed.  The simulated ebony staff is jet black in color and fitted with a tapered metal tip in matching silver color. This piece is complete with the red, black and white portepee with tassle and twisted cord and comes in a custom fitted, red velvet presentation case!  30” long.

Erwin Rommel was the most famous German Field Marshal during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords (German: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub und Schwertern). The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves and Swords was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.

Rommel Intreim Baton - SPECIAL
Rommel Interim Baton - SPECIAL

First it is a good Filler , a 7 out of 10 , and half the price of a more expensive "Cleaner" version. It is a nice Filler item to add to your DAK , or your Erwin Rommel collecting Interest.

When I received my interim Baton , the outer packing Box was much larger and oversized than the Baton Case inside. After opening the Shipping Box I found lots of protective packing peanuts pouring out everywhere !

when I got to the item I was waiting for , A RED (Not Black) Baton case was inside , I found the Case that held the Baton was open inside of it's Clear Packing Bag , with the Baton "Head" hanging out at the end of it's Case. The Red Baton Case should have somehow been Strapped closed for shipping
This would have made it ready for its Rough and VERY BAD ride by the U.S.P.S., and their terrible shipping techniques and VERY BAD handling practices. this could have prevented the Baton to NOT fall out of its open Case like my Baton had done.

On to the Baton .
At first look , with the Baton removed from its RED Case and also 'In It's' own protective Clear Bag, I removed the bag. at first look the actual STICK of the Baton looked like something from my Wood Shop ! It is very Grainy , and a bit rough to the touch , Not smooth like I would have thought it would or could be. but also not to bad either - For a Cheaper Filler !

All of the photos I have seen (and not to many) of other interim Rommel Batons (seen from the NET), I have seen then with and without metal end caps. My Baton has a metal end cap.

The 'Head" or Top of the Baton has accurate features from what I have seen from Pictures , it does look correct. The Interim Baton looks to be Chrome or Nickel plated, My Baton has a scuff mark , and a Solder Blob on the Chrome plating with a scratch type error made into the plating on the 'Head" , with No Way to clean it up or off any Better. these are all small errors and can not be seen from afar , but are VERY NOTICEABLE close up.

This set also came with a Portapee , which I have only seen from afar , and from photos. it is well made , the colors are Brite . and is much longer than
the length of the actual Baton (Sorry , I didn't Measure it).
The Portapee does look good , but its size is a problem I am still working with. The Portapee's long 'Chord' is at a estimate of about 1/4" wide , The Eye type fitting that is on the Baton is only about 1/8" , in simple terms , the Portapee is much larger than the eye that it is suppose to pass through ?? I'm still trying to figure this one out !!

Overall , this is a good buy , at almost half the price of the 'Cleaner' made Interim Rommel Baton's, Their are a few little cosmetic things on this cheaper Version that could have been better , but if it was , you would be paying more for it. And as said from the beginning , if is a Fantastic Filler , It can be used with a Mannequin , or nicely cased , or as a Soldier, Re-encating as a Erwin Rommel Impression . But Close up it does have its imperfections.
